Key Issue

Over the course of my time with the UGA Athens-Clarke County Extension Office and Marigold Market, there have not been many issues that the office has come across; however, like I blogged about in previous week, social media has been a challenge/issue. It might not be the biggest concern, but it is something I have observed to be a challenge.

As an intern, I looked at social media, mainly Instagram, and compared their Instagram to similar Instagrams. For example, for the Marigold Market Instagram, I looked at their content, and then went to Athens Farmers Market Instagram because the Athens Farmers Market has been around for a lot longer than the Marigold Market. The Marigold Market Instagram needs to have a schedule to post and interact with the community through social media kind of like the other markets. Also, to showcase the vendors that come to the market.

In addition, I also observed that having time to do little tasks can be challenging because there is so much to do in the office such as from talking to members of the community to writing grants and so much more. I have created cute stickers, banners, and flyers for the office for events. Joanna and Laura are so busy with the rest of their tasks that they do not have as much time for creating stickers, banners, flyers, etc.

The way they resolve this issue is by asking the interns to create these things ahead of time, or they work extra to get these things done. I enjoy a lot of tasks they have assigned me, and I find it exciting that they are using the stickers and flyers that I create.

These two things have challenged me to work on my creativity, and find out ways to improve how a company effectively uses social media because a company can use social media, but not connect with the community.

I have attached some of the stickers and flyers I have created. They are for the Great Georgia Pollinator Census that is happening in August. I cannot wait for the event to happen, and I am thrilled that Laura and Joanna asked me to create these stickers and flyers for the event.
